Waste team on the road to highlight new service

Changes to the Cotswolds’ waste and recycling service will be explained at a series of roadshows across the District starting next week.

The dates and venues are:

  • Monday, 5th November: Brewery Car Park, Cirencester, 9am to 3pm
  • Tuesday, 6th November: Forum Car Park, Cirencester, 9am to 3pm
  • Wednesday, 7th November: Waitrose, Cirencester, 9am to 3pm
  • Thursday, 8th November: Stow-on-the-Wold Farmers Market, Market Square, Stow, 9am to 1.30pm
  • Friday, 9th November: Tesco, Stow-on-the-Wold, 1pm to 7pm

Council in plea to save Cotswold’s post offices

A bid to lighten the blow of potential post office closures in the Cotswolds has been put forward by Cotswold District Council this week.

During November, Post Office Ltd will be considering which, if any, of the 38 Post Offices in the Cotswold District will be earmarked for closure.

Spot Loggins Day - Bretforton's own Bank Holiday

Spot Loggins was reputedly a sheep drover living in the 17th century who drowned in a cattle spring. The local legend is that anyone who runs three times around the spring blindfold will magically lose any items that they are carrying.

The legend will be celebrated at The Fleece with a noon "breakfast" followed by a musical procession and a plum jerkum blessing of the Spot Loggins' spring.

Chipping Campden wins a first in The Bledisloe Cup

Chipping Campden wins first prize in the large village category

The mayor of Chipping Campden collected the award accompanied by the Campden co-ordinater for the competition, Ros Young, who said "Campden won by a whisker because we had tackled the areas that were criticised by the judges last year"
Most counties have a "best kept village" competition but The Bledisloe Cup competition started in 1937 and was the first in the UK.
