Princess Royal to visit Tewkesbury on Friday 18th January

The Princess Royal plans to make a quick 1 hour working visit to Tewkesbury to show support for residents who are being affected by the floods.

The Princess will arrive at the Canterbury Inn, Ashchurch Road in Newtown, Tewkesbury, on Friday 18th January where the Lord-Lieutenant of Gloucestershire, Mr Henry Elwes will present: the Councillor for Newton, Graham Dawson; Town Clerk, Major Michael Wilson; Chairman of Tewkesbury Chamber of Commerce, Mr Bruce Keen; Captain, 1st Tewkesbury Company Boys Brigade, Mr Andrew Baldwin.

Historic shoes and footwear fairytales at the Corinium museum

A month-long exhibition which looks at historic shoes and footwear fairytales will open at the Corinium Museum, Cirencester on Sunday January 20th.

‘Cinderella Shoes’ will showcase 200-year-old silk shoes with gorgeous gold-coloured buckles; huge protective boots from Victorian times; funky and chunky Seventies platform shoes and tiny baby bootees from 1900.

The fabulous footwear comes from the Museum’s own collection and that of local collector Shelagh Lovett-Turner.

Alongside the exhibits are big, shoe-inspired collages made by children from Acorns Day Nursery, Bright Eyes Children’

Keep warm in winter with advice at Moreton

How to keep warm in the height of winter will be the advice on offer – along with a free energy-saving light-bulb - at the Moreton Area Centre next month.

Cotswold District Council staff at the High Street office will welcome Gloucestershire Energy Efficiency Advice Centre advisers on January 15th, who will offer free and impartial advice on a range of heating and energy efficiency issues.

They will discuss the best ways to keep your house warm – which include using loft and wall insulation – and how to save money on your fuel bills.  They will also offer advice on how to

Explore a selection of shoes at Cotswold Museum session

Step into line at the Corinium Museum next month when local nursery children join forces with staff to create a temporary shoe show.

The museum will team up with local nurseries Stepping Stones, Bright Eyes Nursery, Cirencester Opportunity Group and Acorns Nursery School, to offer each group individual historic shoe ‘handling sessions’.

The 35-minute sessions, led by one of the Museum’s Education Officers, will allow the toddlers to understand why we wear shoes, explore different types of shoes and take part in a range of activities, including drawing shoes and playing ‘shoe pairs’.

Spot Loggins Day - Bretforton's own Bank Holiday

Spot Loggins was reputedly a sheep drover living in the 17th century who drowned in a cattle spring. The local legend is that anyone who runs three times around the spring blindfold will magically lose any items that they are carrying.

The legend will be celebrated at The Fleece with a noon "breakfast" followed by a musical procession and a plum jerkum blessing of the Spot Loggins' spring.

Tetbury goes green with weekend Swap Shop

Unwanted items ranging from books to bicycles were exchanged for free at a Swap Shop in Tetbury.

Last weekend’s event was organised by Cotswold District Council as part of its drive to reduce waste and promote the re-use and recycling of materials.

Residents were able to bring along unwanted but re-usable clothes, shoes, books, crockery, videos and computer games and take other items home with them for free.

Moreton-in-Marsh Show is a traditional one day agricultural and horse show held on a green field site in the North Cotswolds on the first Saturday in September every year.

It is the leading agricultural event in Gloucestershire and one of the best shows on the circuit.
