Taxi fares in the Cotswolds will be increased for the first time in three years after a proposed fares increase put forward by taxi companies was agreed by Cotswold District Council’s Licensing Committee.

Cotswold District donates £325 to church appeal after car park charging mistake

Cotswold District Council is to donate £325 to the appeal to restore Cirencester Parish Church after mistakenly charging on Sundays in one of its car parks.

The Council charges from Monday to Saturday inclusive in its pay and display car parks in Cirencester, while parking on Sundays is free.

Get in gear with Moreton Centre’s driving tips

A special event that gives young people the opportunity to learn about responsible, safe and legal driving is to be held in Moreton-in-Marsh next month.

Teenagers aged between 15 and 17 are being urged to sign up now for the Roadrunners project at Cotswold District Council’s Moreton Area Centre on Monday February 18th.

The event, between 10am and 3pm, is designed for young people who are thinking about learning to drive.  The course covers topics such as:

  • First driving lesson – A chance to get behind the wheel of a dual-control car, guided by a qualified driv

Cotswold reviews parking charges

New pay-and-display parking charges in the Cotswolds are being proposed for the first time in four years from April 1st 2008.

The District Council plans to freeze the half-hour charge at its pay-and-display car parks at 50p and to add just 10p to the current £1 charge for one hour.

The £1.60 charge for two hours would rise to £2, while a three-hour stay would increase from £2 to £2.50.

Proposed charges:
Half hour to stay at 50p
One hour increases to £1.10
Two hours increases to £2.00
Three hours increases to £2.50

Cotswold gears up for parking handover

More parking attendants will be visible on Cotswold streets when the District Council takes over responsibility for on-street parking enforcement on November 5th.

The move, known as Civil Parking Enforcement, sees the police hand over parking duties to local councils working in partnership with Gloucestershire County Council.

The aim is to keep our roads safe, reduce congestion and keep routes free for emergency vehicles by tackling anti-social parking problems.
