Inspired Expertise at Court Barn Museum Chipping Campden

Exhibition: Inspired Expertise: A celebration of work from the current designer- makers of the Gloucestershire Guild of Craftsmen.
Saturday 8th August 2009 to Sunday 27th September 2009.

This summer Court Barn Museum will present a survey exhibition of recent work from the members of the Gloucestershire Guild of Craftsmen.

Inspired Expertise will bring together around 30 new pieces both artistic and useful ranging from colourful textiles to exquisite book bindings. The pieces, most of which have been produced within the last year, highlight the continuing creativity and skill produced by the Guild Members.
Set up in 1933, it is the longest surviving craft guild in England and has gone from strength to strength supporting up and coming makers.

Pieces on display include:

My jewellery design is inspired by materials and techniques. My favourite silversmithing techniques are fusing and reticulation, using heat and layers of silver to pattern and shape. All my jewellery is made from sterling
silver.

I use hand dyed velvets in rich colours and metallic organza for contrast,
incorporating tubing and cables into the fabrics to provide a "skeleton‟. Through intensive hand and machine stitching I gradually shape the fabric into organic textile sculptures.

Working with slipware allows me the scope to use a drawn line in combination with freely painted colour and to indulge myself on the pleasure of making patterns.

Mary Greensted, Trustee of the Guild of Handicraft Trust and Chair of the Gloucestershire Guild of Craftsmen comments: “In the introduction to the Exhibition of Cotswold Art and Craftsmanship in 1935 C. R. Ashbee wrote that the crafts have 'a definite place in the new order' and these words
once again ring true today. More and more people are finding fulfillment through the making process - as amateurs as well as professionals.
This exhibition showcasing the work of a talented and innovative group of makers will inspire all who visit.”

Mary Greensted will open this exciting new exhibition at 11am on Saturday 8 August. Members of the Guild will also be on hand to talk about their work.
All are welcome to attend.

Normal admission charges will apply £3.75 adult - £3.00 concession

The museum is open Tuesday to Saturday: 10.30 - 17.30
