Brian Carrick's International New Orleans Band at Chipping Sodbury

Jazz Festival Fundraising Concert,Baptist Church Hall, Chipping Sodbury

Following the runaway success of the first of this year's fund-raising concerts in support of the Sodbury Jazz Festival, plans are now well underway for the next event.

On Monday 7th May, the appearance in Chipping Sodbury of Brian Carrick's International New Orleans Band will be a major coup for the organisers.

"It is a rare opportunity for local enthusiasts to hear and meet international players on tour in the UK" commented organiser Stuart Hobday, "Brian Carrick's band is well known for its sincere interpretation of the New Orleans style of jazz. On this occasion they have the added authenticity by featuring drummer Frank Oxley, leader of the famous Eureka Brass Band of New Orleans, and paying his first visit to the UK."

"Jazz fans in particular will not want to miss this special event, and the whole community enjoys this infectious, foot-tapping music", added Hobday.

The concert takes place at Chipping Sodbury Baptist Church and tickets priced £12.50 can be purchased from Swagger in Chipping Sodbury High Street and at Rounceval House in Rounceval Street.

The Sodbury Jazz Festival will take place from 28th - 30th September. The 2012 line up already includes jazz legend Acker Bilk who will play with his Paramount Jazz Band; Jacqui Dankworth, considered to be one of the classiest acts in British jazz singing and daughter of Dame Cleo Lane and the late Sir John Dankworth; and Terry Lightfoot, internationally acclaimed clarinettist, saxophonist and vocalist and prominent ever since the traditional jazz revival in Britain in the 1950s.

Added to this, a number of other bands will be appearing in local pubs over the three-day event. Full details available at www.visitchippingsodbury.com shortly.

Brian Carrick's International New Orleans Jazz Band: Adding to the international flavour is guest trumpeter Patrick Tevlin (trumpet) from Canada, leader of Toronto's Happy Pals and Patrick Tevlin's New Orleans Rhythm.

Completing the line-up are Malcolm Hurrell, banjo, Tom Whittingham, trombone, Derek Jones, bass and, of course, Brian Carrick on clarinet and tenor sax. In appreciation of his contribution and love of New Orleans and its music, in 1975 Brian was made an honorary citizen of that city.
