Thomas and Friends take over the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway!

The Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway (GWR) is bracing itself for hundreds of fans of ‘Thomas the Tank Engine' this weekend (26 and 27 May) as the cheeky blue locomotive and his friends take over the railway.

The fun starts at 9.30 in the morning on each day, as Thomas heads the first train from Cheltenham Racecourse station, through the Cotswold countryside and the mysterious Greet Tunnel to Winchcombe. There families will see Thomas's friends, including Mavis, the Troublesome Trucks and Toad the brake van as stories from the late Rev. Awdry's wonderful stories come to life.

"Thomas and Friends have enthralled youngsters - and the not so young - for generations," says Andy Smith, organiser of the event.

"Seeing the pictures from the books and the popular TV series come to life, and to travel on a train pulled by Thomas, is a real treat - to say nothing of the Fat Controller, Sir Topham Hatt, trying to make the engines behave!"

Thomas, Diesel and one of the railway's other steam engines will be running a frequent service between Cheltenham Racecourse, and Winchcombe. There are lots of activities including face painting, bus rides, Punch & Judy, magic shows and model railways and at Cheltenham, brake van rides.

There's lots of free car parking at Cheltenham Racecourse station (via the main racecourse entrance then follow the signs to the station) but no parking at Winchcombe during either day.

Full information including train times can be found at the railway's website, www.gwsr.com
