Bumper Weekend of Food and Music at Chipping Sodbury

Two festivals featuring good food and great music come together to entice hundreds of visitors to Chipping Sodbury next weekend. (1)
Mark Lloyd, Chair of the Chamber of Commerce comments, ‘Our Festival of Food, part of the ‘Discover Festival' programme is now firmly established as one of the most popular annual events in the town. It attracts thousands of visitors from far and wide. For the first time it will be running alongside the equally popular Sodbury Jazz Festival, so the day is certain to provide a huge boost to the town'.
Beginning on Friday 28th September the Sodbury Jazz Festival is bringing headline acts Acker Bilk (2) and Jacqui Dankworth (3) to perform at the Town Hall. Acker, of course needs no introduction to the town as he recorded his BBC Radio 2 series ‘Ackers Away' there. However, it's an eagerly awaited first visit by Jacqui Dankworth, daughter of the late Sir John Dankworth and Cleo Laine.
"There's a wealth of musical talent in this part of the country", added fellow organiser Stuart Hobday. "Adding support throughout the three days we have a line-up of several of the very best jazz musicians from the South West. In the pubs around town you will be able to hear everything from Trad to Mainstream to Latin and Boogie".
Violin supremo John Pearce, organist Ruth Hammond, Columbian piano virtuoso Raimundo Fernandez and ace trumpeter Colin Dawson from Germany are just a few of the names due to set the feet tapping over the weekend. In addition Dave Newton, voted Best British Jazz Pianist over ten consecutive years will be performing for a special Jazz Dinner. (4)
For aspiring musicians Chipping Sodbury Baptist Church plays host to two tutorials offering advice on technique from professional musicians.
Throughout Saturday, the Food Festival includes beer and food tastings, cookery demonstrations and samplings at many of the town's shops, restaurants and public houses.
The day begins with an extended Farmers Market, featuring over 30 local food producers as well as high quality arts and crafts stalls. Also on offer will be chocolate tasting, Chinese food tasting, cheese, cider and beer tasting, a sugar-craft demo, a barbeque and a children's entertainer. Famous from the Channel 4 series ‘The Fabulous Baker Brothers', Hobbs House Bakery will be sampling their breads and there will be a Hobbs Grill outside the butchery.
Returning for a second year, following their very successful appearance at last year's Jazz Festival, are the Bristol based ‘Ambling Band' who will be entertaining visitors and shoppers throughout the day.
Mark Lloyd continued, "This is a great weekend to visit the historic market town of Chipping Sodbury - a chance to enjoy fine food, listen to fantastic music and experience a unique blend of independent shops and businesses'.
