Major Acts revealed for Sodbury Jazz Festival

Sodbury Jazz Festival 31 May to 2 June 2013
Plans are now well underway for the third annual Sodbury Jazz Festival with the revelations that Clare Teale will be one of two major headline acts taking part.
"As the festival grows our aim is to continue to bring top class musicians to the town", said Mark Lloyd, Chair of the Sodbury Chamber of Commerce. " We're very excited that Clare Teal, now known to many through her shows on BBC Radio 2, will be performing for us. And making it an amazing weekend, we have also been able to secure the highly praised, action-packed show that takes you back to the music, dance, and songs of the 1920s and ‘30s - ‘Swinging at the Cotton Club'

Both acts will be appearing at Chipping Sodbury Town Hall, with Clare Teal in concert on Saturday 1 June and the Cotton Club on Friday 31 May.

The three-day event will also feature local professional jazz in many of the town's pubs and cafes and a full programme will be announced at the end of March.

Tickets for the headline acts are available from Rounceval House Hotel, t. 01454 334410 or email

Friday 31st May - Swinging at the Cotton Club tickets are priced at £18

One of the UK's leading jazz singers, Clare Teal needs little introduction, having won numerous awards including British Jazz Singer of the Year and BBC Jazz Singer of the Year. After a marvellously successful 2012, which included supporting Liza Minnelli at Kenwood House, performing at the Royal Albert Hall as part of the televised BBC Proms and being crowned Yorkshire Arts Personality of the Year (for a second time), Clare visits Chipping Sodbury with a brand new mix of standards, originals and contemporary covers, performed to perfection by Clare and her musicians.

‘Swinging at the Cotton Club' - this stunning show is a tribute to Harlem's hottest nightclub that featured the bands of Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Cab Calloway, Lena Horne and Fats Waller. It brings together Harry Strutters Hot Rhythm Orchestra, described by one critic as ‘technically stunning' with Britain's world-famous dance troupe The Jiving Lindy Hoppers. "Watching the Jiving Lindy Hoppers" said one reviewer, "would make the most cynical of anti-dancers reach for the tap shoes"
