Sodbury Jazz Festival - The Best Yet

From the first boogie tune emanating from Yann Deplechin's piano on Friday evening through to the last blues song on Sunday evening from Rick Payne and Ben Hewlett this year's third Sodbury Jazz Festival has to be marked down as the best yet.
That was certainly the verdict of numerous fans who spoke to the organisers. "Brilliant...so professional...we've had a wonderful evening...this is exactly what we should have in Chipping Sodbury....the best show I've ever seen at the Town Hall" were just some of the comments. Music lovers had come from a wide area and at least one couple had come from Exeter for the whole weekend.
Sell-out concerts at the Town Hall attracted hundreds of people to the town, whilst through the day various venues were the home for a variety of music under the general heading of jazz. If you wanted to give it a name there were examples of traditional, mainstream, modern and more. Most people just sat back and enjoyed quality music and quality musicians.
Headline acts
Top of the bill were the wonderful Clare Teal and Swinging at the Cotton Club. If anything aptly described the phrase ‘all-singing, all-dancing' it was the latter. Eight musicians, two singers plus the incredibly talented Jiving Lindy Hoppers put on a slick, fast moving show that only paused for the regulation interval and ended with members of the audience joining the dancers.
The following evening Britain's most successful female jazz singer made her Chipping Sodbury debut along with her band, bassist Simon Little, drummer Ben Reynolds and pianist and MD Grant Windsor. Clare Teal's superb voice, humour and personality had the audience eating out of her hand within minutes. If you were there, you'll know that the sheer class of her performance and that of her musicians brought a standing ovation at the end of the evening. After the concert Clare praised the audience and said that she loved the venue. In return, there were appeals from the concert-goers as they left for another booking next year.
* Breaking news
In fact the organisers have gone one better. Following a post-concert conversation with Clare, we can reveal that we have secured a return visit on 4thDecember , this time with something completely different - the Clare Teal Christmas Show.
At the end of each year Clare breaks with her usual stage act for a special show full of seasonal music and humour. This only runs for a short period, so it is a unique opportunity for local fans. Because of the success of her Festival appearance this year, tickets will obviously be in great demand.
