Young entrepreneurs wow local Dragons....

Over 20 teams from Chipping Sodbury School took part in a local version of the ‘Dragons Den' competition held during the recent alternative curriculum week.The students involved short-listed the 23 teams down to just four and the finalists then presented their ideas to a panel of judges. (1) The ‘Dragons' were tasked with finding an overall winner and to offer financial support of up to £5000.

The entry criteria called for robust and highly marketable products or services and the students were given three categories to choose from; a child's toy; a new fairground ride or a pet product of service.

The four finalists presented in teams and were judged on presentation skills, teamwork, design, development, marketing, cost and profitability.

The projects presented included a new ‘fastest in the UK' roller coaster, a multi-purpose dog lead, a dressing up game for children and an educational toy.

The eventual winning team was decided following a lengthy discussion and debate by the Dragons who unanimously awarded £5000 to the Platinum Enterprises Team for ‘The FuNbOx! (2)

The winning team members included Chipping Sodbury School Student Kayleigh Davis, Ben Slinn and Samuel Alexander-Didcott. (3)

Judge and Dragon Mark Lloyd commented ‘ The FuNbOx!' stood out as being a sustainable, cost effective and highly attractive proposition for the panel. We were impressed with all of the teams who displayed a high level of inventiveness, professionalism and clearly had a lot of fun'.

Finalists were presented with a Certificate with the winning team also receiving a copy of the Fabulous Baker Brothers new book, kindly donated by Hobbs House Bakery.

"We were delighted with the response from our students who all rose to the challenge and proved that the school has a wealth of young potential entrepreneurs' said John Quarlty, Business Teacher at Chipping Sodbury School.
