Keith Hyett at Laverton Village Hall in the Cotswolds

The brilliant Alternative Classical Guitarist, Keith Hyett, will be performing a set of pieces, which paint landscapes in our minds, tone poems as they are, full of light and shade. Saturday 26th October at Laverton Village Hall 7.30pm Tickets £7.00, from Freda Farrell tel 01386 584668, or email keith.hyett@btinternet.com.

Many of the pieces are inspired by the countryside and the estuary of the Severn, where Keith lives in a former ferry-man's cottage. The surge and full power of the huge tide is in this music. The river is seldom out of sound and sight of home. The music builds up to a mighty climax at the end of 'Dance of the rivers'. The beautiful narrative of 'The Mill' catches the ear, and then rushes and falls as a millstream does, over the great wheel and down to the river, and the sea.

The poetry of Thomas Hardy inspired another set of tunes, 'The Opal and the Sapphire' and 'Timing Her' are reflective and thoughtful pieces which contrast strongly with the 'big' pieces. The delicate motet-like 'Apple Blossom'- a meticulously arranged tune - conceals much intricacy which suits Keith's style, and is a tribute to the out-of-storm havens tucked away in the orchards, all along the Vale of Severn.
