Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway Trust magazine wins Heritage Railway Association's ‘Best Publication' award

The Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway Trust's (GWRT) magazine, The Cornishman, has won the highly prestigious Heritage Railway Association (HRA) ‘Best Publication' award for 2012.

The award will be presented by Lord Richard Faulkner, President of the HRA and a patron of the GWR to editor Steve Standbridge at the GWR on Sunday 27th October.

The Cornishman magazine is named after a celebrated express train that ran over the route of the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway between 1952 and 1962 between Wolverhampton and Penzance - the only named express train to run over the line.

The magazine is sent to each of the railway's 3,750 members every quarter and is sold in the railway's shops. The magazine is almost as old as the heritage society itself, having been first published in the summer of 1982 as a black and white edition at a cost of 35p.

Today's magazine, after 126 issues, is 64 pages with many colour photographs and prides itself on bringing up to date and detailed information about the railway to its many supporters and friends.

Like all of the Trust's activities, the magazine is produced on an entirely voluntary basis with the current editor, Steve Standbridge, having produced the last 80 issues.
