Cotswolds demonstrates truly international appeal

The international appeal of the Cotswolds has once again been recognised with a brace of hotels in Burford being sold by sector experts Colliers International.

Latest operators attracted to the Cotswolds honeypot are Liu and Yna Ming who have bought characterful Burford Lodge on the main road into town while the mother, husband and wife team of Jane, Dan and Michelle Arnell have taken over the popular Highway Inn Hotel in the High Street.

Dan Arnell studied Hotel and Catering Management before working in several senior roles within the Hilton Group. The family then went on to buy a small country hotel in the Highlands of Scotland.

After a break working with Unilever and a spell in New Zealand with Michelle's family, Dan has now brought the family back to the UK and is very happy to settle in the charming Cotswolds.

Mother Jane has a background as a director for many charitable organisations including Wellbeing and Sense. She has also owned a self-catering cottage business in Suffolk along with the hotel in the Highlands.

Dan said: "The Highway makes an ideal base to get to know the area's many attractions and is the number one choice for traditional country breaks.

"We were looking for a combination of good business opportunities, busy lifestyle and community and found it here in Burford."

Right in the heart of town, the Highway Inn Hotel sits alongside the antique shops and stone cottages which help maintain the town's reputation as a genuine Cotswolds honeypot.

Colliers International hotels director Peter Brunt, who sold some two dozen hotels and pubs in the region through the downturn, is actively seeking new properties having little left on his books to offer queues of buyers.

He said: "Burford is the beating heart of the Cotswolds and is situated at the junction of three major tourist routes - the A40, A361 and A424. It continues to draw visitors in its own right or as a convenient base to explore the region.

"The Highway exemplifies all that is best in a traditional English hotel combing genuine period feel with the highest standards of comfort."

Burford Lodge on the A40 has also been sold to Liu & Yna Ming. With nine exceptionally well presented letting rooms the hotel makes an ideal base for the weekend exodus of Londoners keen on spending downtime in the Cotswolds.

Peter Brunt concluded: "We generally find people have popped down for a weekend and fallen completely in love with the place. It's the perfect get away from it all destination without having to spend hours and hours getting there. In short, Burford's got the lot."
