Good news for Cirencester Hospital services

Cotswolds MP Geoffrey Clifton-Brown has given a cautious welcome to the long awaited announcement from the Gloucestershire Primary Care Trust (PCT) that UK Specialist Hospitals (UKSH) will carry out a range of routine, planned operations at Cirencester Hospital from Autumn 2009.

The MP, along with Dr Tony Walsh from Tetbury amongst others, visited UK Specialist Hospitals at Shepton Mallet and were impressed with the efficiency and cleanliness of the facility.

Mr Clifton-Brown commented "For as long as I have represented the residents of Cirencester there has been pressure to cut the number of services provided by the hospital which I have repeatedly opposed"
"This announcement means not only will the recovery ward and theatre facilities be upgraded but it underlines the strategic importance of the hospital and it guarantees its future"

There is now a great deal of work needed to integrate this new service with the existing services provided and to ensure that all consultants, doctors, nurses and other staff are working harmoniously together.

The MP added "This is good news for the people of Cirencester and the surrounding areas who would see an improved service at their hospital in the future"
